Deak Ferrand, a multiple award-winning visual effects designer and digital artist whose specialty is 3D matte paintings, has left R!ot, the post production facility, to launch an independent studio called Hatch with his long-time visual effects producing partner, Cheryl Bainum.
Hatch (www.hatchfx.com) designs and produces digital visual effects for films, television, commercials and interactive projects. Studio tools include Softimage, AfterEffects and Photoshop software.
Ferrand's feature film credits include Titus Andronicus, Mystery Men, What Dreams May Come and X-Men. Since launching Hatch, Ferrand has been sub-contracted by R!ot to continue collaborating with visual effects producer Juliette Yager and director Chuck Russell on approximately 20 shots for Universal's The Scorpion King. Ferrand is a visual effects designer/supervisor and lead matte painter on The Scorpion King. Additionally, Ferrand continues to work as a visual effects designer/supervisor and matte painter on Blade 2. He was also a matte painter on Lord of the Rings and recently was visual effects designer/supervisor and lead matte painter on The One.
